2011 FIA GT1 World Championship season

 

The 2011 FIA GT1 World Championship season is the second season of the SRO Group's FIA GT1 World Championship, an auto racing series for grand tourer cars complying with Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) GT1 regulations. The championship comprises one title of GT1 World Champion for Drivers and one title of GT1 World Champion for Teams. Five of the six manufacturers represented in the 2010 championship will return for the second season, however Maserati will not be represented and 2010 Teams World Champions Vitaphone Racing Team will not defend their title.

The season commenced at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on 25–26 March and will end at the Potrero de los Funes Circuit in Argentinaon 4–6 November. The ten event season includes an inaugural race at the Ordos International Circuit in China.


The Championship 

The FIA GT1 World Championship is a world championship sports car racing series, regulated by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and promoted by the Stephane Ratel Organisation (SRO). Entrants compete in one-hour races on multiple continents, driving ‘grand touring’ race cars that are based on standard production road cars, and conform to strict GT1 regulations.Championships are awarded to teams and drivers each season. 

   

 

The FIA GT World Championship heads to Silverstone for what will be the fifth race of the year, which will put us right in the middle of the season when this event is complete. It happens on June 5th, 2011, and the next stop on the FIA GT Series is Navarro on July 3rd. Also coming up in the series, a visit to Paul Ricard, Ordos and San Luis. The world famous Silverstone Circuit in Great Britain is 5.141 kilometers long per lap for this race, and there are seventeen turns on this challenging circuit. Free practice and pre-qualifying is going to be done on Friday, June 3rd and then the qualifying race is on Saturday at 16:15. The Championship race will be run the next day. Prior to this weekend's race at Silverstone the series was in Sachsenring, Germany on May 15th and as a result of the past races HEXIS AMR leads the teams right now with a hundred and seven points.

The driver's standings are not available at this time, but last year when the season ended the standings showed Michael Bartels in first place and Andrea Bertolini in second. Thomas Mutsch was in third and Frederic Makowiecki came in fourth. In fifth place was Darren Turner and Tomas Enge came in sixth, while Marc Hennerici, Frank Kechele and Alexandros Margaritis take the final spots in the top ten.
